Paul is reading ‘Fantômas’ (1911), the first in a series of 32 books by Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain about the adventures of this most famous master criminal. Known as ‘the master of everyone and everything’, Fantômas’s identity remains unknown throughout the series. The extract used below is from Cranstoun Metcalfe’s English translation from the original French, which was published by Brentano’s Publishers in New York in 1915.
Thinking to some purpose?
Don’t you wish you sometimes knew what people thought? But then again, maybe not. Just to finish off the week, here’s an example of some of Luci’s slightly random thoughts.
You can watch a soundtracked video of these images here.

Outtake #6: Lunar phase
Another quick and simple slideshow, this time showing the movement of the Supermoon during the one fatal week in March where almost everyone in Folly Ground was driven over the edge. In the foreground, you can see the old building where Luci, Flo and Raf are sharing a flat (extreme left) along with some other landmarks of their neighbourhood.
You can watch a soundtracked video of these images here.

Outtake #5: Luci's dream
In ‘The Moon Illusion’, Luci has a hard time getting to sleep during the week of the March Supermoon. On top of that, he is, literally and metaphorically, beset by crabs, or so he thinks. Here is a sneak preview of one of his stranger dreams when he manages to drift off. Those who are old enough no doubt remember the (analogue) days of TV test cards and the all too common sound of TV static. I know I do!
You can watch the video of these illustrations (with an appropriate TV soundtrack too!) here.
You can read ‘The Moon Illusion’ in its entirety here.

Dream Rinse Kit
Suffering from a heavy bout of insomnia? Perhaps you’re having recurring dreams? Or are you afflicted by other psychic disturbances? Worry not, now there is a solution. Advert below from the current issue of Folly Ground, ‘The Moon Illusion’.
Science fiction, not facts
Advertising for Lame Science magazine. From the current issue of Folly Ground, ‘The Moon Illusion’.
Outtake #4: Strictly for the culinary adventurous
Advert for Folly Ground’s premiere experimental restaurant. I designed this for the classified pages of Issue #1, but in the end it didn’t fit quite so well with the rest of the adverts. However, this is not the end of The Old Improvisational Restaurant; it will be back in a future issue. Until then, I will leave the rest to your imagination.
Something for the weekend
A small piece of original Folly Ground art. Have a good weekend. And keep it clean!
Outtake #3: Night walk
A silent, three-panel night time sequence where Luci is looking for his dog Gordon.

Outtake #2: Supermoon coping strategies
Another unused panel from Issue #1.
